History of IASAP West Bengal Chapter

The Journey thus far….

The Indian Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals (IASAP), originally known as the National Institute of Professional Secretaries (NIPS), has a rich history that is closely intertwined with the development of professional administrative services in India. Founded in 1970, the organization has grown from its initial establishment in Mumbai to a nationwide body with multiple chapters, including the significant West Bengal Chapter, inaugurated in Kolkata in 1985. This chapter, under the leadership of figures such as the late Daphne Stockman and Late Philomena Eaton, has been instrumental in shaping the professional landscape for secretaries and administrative professionals in the region.

Over the years, the West Bengal Chapter has been at the forefront of celebrating excellence within the profession. It hosted the prestigious All-India Secretary of the Year Contest in 1991 and later, the 6th National Convention in 1999, which focused on the theme "Beyond Y2K," reflecting the chapter's commitment to staying ahead of technological and professional trends. The chapter's dedication to professional development and recognition was further exemplified when Mridula Kar from West Bengal Chapter was honored as the All-India Secretary & Administrative Professional of the Year in 2013.

The chapter's milestones include the celebration of its Silver Jubilee in 2009 and its Pearl Anniversary in 2015, marking 25 and 30 years of service, respectively. These anniversaries were not just celebrations but also acknowledgments of the chapter's enduring legacy and its role in the professional growth of its members. In 2025 the Chapter will celebrate its Ruby anniversary.

The Chapter was hosts to the 18th National Convention – “Tilottama @ 2024 – Ahead of the Curve”.

The passing of IASAP's Founder & President Emeritus, Mrs. Homai Mehta, in 2020 and the Chapter’s founding member, Late Daphne Stockman in March 2024 marked the end of an era, but their vision continues to guide the association. With the introduction of the Best Practices Contest in 2022, the West Bengal Chapter continues to innovate and adapt to the evolving needs of the profession. As it prepares to host another Convention, the chapter stands as a testament to the enduring spirit and resilience of the administrative profession in India. The legacy of the West Bengal Chapter is a narrative of progress, leadership, and community, woven into the larger tapestry of IASAP's history.
